Exercise, Education, and EMSELLA

Incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine. The most common types of incontinence are urge incontinence and stress incontinence. Urge incontinence occurs when the need to urinate is sudden and intense and leads to involuntary urination.  Stress incontinence occurs when a force is exerted on the bladder and pelvic floor muscles. Common examples of this is coughing, sneezing, laughing and exercising.

It has been reported that up to 33% of Americans suffer from incontinence. Common conditions leading to incontinence:

  • pregnancy

  • childbirth

  • Sports

  • Weak pelvic floor

  • Enlarged prostate

  • Diabetes

  • Anxiety

  • Diet

Our Hingham location currently provides treatment which includes education, pelvic floor strengthening, and bladder programs. A private pay option that we offer is called the EMSELLA. The EMSELLA is a chair which uses electromagnetic impulses to contract the pelvic floor muscles. Patients sit fully dressed and let the chair do the work. The EMSELLA chair elicits over 1,400 pelvic floor contractions in one 28 minute session. Six sessions is the overall recommended treatment plan with periodic follow up session. To learn more about EMSELLA please click here.

We also treate urinary incontinence using EMSELLA technology at our Hingham location.
