The way anyone who has experienced this malady explains it describes it as feeling like the room or the world is spinning around you. You can also experience dizziness and nausea and or vomiting. Other things you might notice are unsteadiness, falls, difficulty walking, and when you rollover in bed it can increase the symptoms.

Physical therapy can improve Vertigo. The most common cause is Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and our physical therapists can perform maneuvers and teach you manuevers to give you relief from vertigo.

Another cause for dizziness or difficulty with your balance can be after having a concussion. A concussion is usually due to an injury to the head. Following a concussion vestibular physical therapy may help. The vestibular system includes the inner ear and its connections with the brain-and this system helps you maintain you balance and prevent dizziness. Some symptoms you can experience following a concussion are headaches, difficulty concentrating, and changes with memory, coordination and balance. There are several other things that can affect balance that can be treated by physical therapy.

Our Physical Therapists will design a customized program including balance retraining, proprioceptive retraining, exercises all to improve imbalance, maintain physical activity, prevent falls and provide education for what you can do at home.
